Administrative / Biographical History

The parish of Glantawe was formed in 1965 by bringing together two mission churches. The parish church was St Margaret's, Bonymaen: this was situated on Mansel Street, Bonymaen and began as a corrugated steel structure, built in 1910 as a mission church to serve the southern part of the parish of Llansamlet. It was rebuilt in red brick in the 1920s. The other church was St Peter's, Pentrechwyth. It began as a school, built on Pentrechwyth Road, Pentrechwyth in 1860. This was licensed for Divine Service in 1881 and operated as a mission church in the parish of Kilvey. It was named St Peter's in 1904. In 1910 the building was acquired by the church and repurposed. In 2021 both churches were closed and the parish ceased to be.
