Channing, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Maria Edgeworth, Ralph Waldo Emerson, William Ewart Gladstone, Nathaniel Hawthorne (3), Charles Lamb, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Giuseppe Mazzini, Dr Joseph Priestley, Samuel Rogers (2), Sir Walter Scott (2), Robert Southey, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Daniel Webster, Prosper Mérimée, and George Sand. The letters are arranged alphabetically as follows:
