Administrative / Biographical History

Alan Frank Wakelin was born in Staffordshire in 1932. He studied history at St David’s College, Lampeter, before joining the College of the Resurrection at Mirfield in 1958. The College was established by the Anglican religious order, the Community of the Resurrection, to train men without means for the priesthood. Wakelin was ordained Deacon in 1960 and Priest in 1961, both at Peterborough Cathedral.
From 1960-1963 Wakelin served as Curate of St Matthew’s Church in Northampton, followed by two years at All Saints in Peterborough and three years at Spalding. In 1968 he was appointed Rector of Skirbeck in Lincolnshire, where he remained until his retirement in 1997.
Reverend Wakelin died in November 2020.

The archive was gifted by the family of Reverend Wakelin in March 2022.
