Administrative / Biographical History
In 1852 HMS Resolute (Henry Kellett) sailed north in company with HMS Intrepid (Francis Leopold McClintock) on the British Naval Franklin Search Expedition, 1852-1854. This expedition was under the general jurisdiction of Sir Edward Belcher who ordered the two ships to be abandoned when they became beset. Resolute eventually became free and was sailed to the United States fro repairs before being returned to Britain.
