Ancient Order of Shepherds

Scope and Content

The records are sparse in comparison to the previous subfonds, but they still provide useful information on membership, accounts and contributions to the society. The subfonds is divided into two series: minute books (KDF/2/1) and accounts (KDF/2/2).

Administrative / Biographical History

The Ancient Order of Shepherds was a sickness and benefits society that met quarterly. Key members were the Dale, Burgess and Massey families. The dissolution of the Ancient Order of Shepherds was first proposed in 1905, which was subsequently followed by a transition period, until 1912 when the society was finally wound up. Many members transferred to the Knutsford District of Foresters friendly society.
