Began manufacturing in Birmingham, 1879; Incorporated 18 January 1910. Became part of the Rowntree group December 1929, to make biscuits for the Rowntree group. In 1933 Hughes made chocolate biscuits for F W Woodworth and Co. Ltd and Gray and Dunn and Co. to trade as an "A" house. The factory was destroyed November 1940, rebuilt 1946-7 CWM 1970/1. Ceased trading 1974. Renamed Rowntree Mackintosh Export Ltd 20 October 1986.
