Administrative / Biographical History

Brewers' Food Supply Co Ltd, processors and retailers of brewery by–products, Edinburgh, Scotland, was formed by a consortium of breweries in 1918, as traders in dried grain, yeastrel, and yeast, and manufacturers of human and cattle foods and liquids. The company was registered as a private limited company on 8 August 1918. The first directors of the company were James Younger of George Younger & Son Ltd, Alloa, Scotland, Thomas Leslie Usher of Thomas Usher & Son Ltd, Edinburgh, Scotland, James William Shennan of William Younger & Co Ltd, Edinburgh, Scotland, and William Younger of William McEwan & Co Ltd, Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1937 the company address was 189 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland, but in 1938 it moved to 191 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1964 Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd, Edinburgh, Scotland, became the parent company, and by June 1964 the offices had moved to Abbey Brewery, Edinburgh, Scotland. The drying of brewers grain stopped by the end of 1972, and in 1975 the company ceased the process of drying surplus yeast, instead concentrating production on livestock feed, which led to the plant being disused. In 1979 there were several proposals by outside companies to take over Brewers' Food Supply Co Ltd, and it was Moray Park Maltings, Edinburgh, Scotland, who took control of the company in that year. Moray Park Maltings was a subsidiary company of Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd, and in 2002 the Brewers' Food Supply Co Ltd existed as a dormant company of the Scottish & Newcastle group.
