Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
A campaign to record the handing down of the Christian faith took place in the Diocese of York in 1956-57. As a result, each rural deanery produced a manuscript book with an entry for each parish, recording how Christianity came to the parish and what was being done to preserve it. Most books also contain a copy of the Creed, a brief account of the diocese, a map showing the divisions of archdeaconries and rural deaneries, and a page of heraldic shields for each of the churches in the deanery with the emblems of the saint of the dedication. (See GB 193 RD BEV 5 for a further example.)
