Born 12 February 1842 in Swansea the son of George Grant Francis and Sarah Richardson. Much of the material deposited at the Royal Institution was done so by John Richardson Francis after his father's death. These items can be identified by a stamped mark stating 'The Gift of John Richardson Francis 1895'. John followed a career as a merchant in Swansea until his retirement.
