Administrative / Biographical History

Mary's brother Henry was a member of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). As a member of the Pole Party (Scott, Wilson, Oates, Evans) he reached the South Pole on 17 January 1912. The entire party died during the return journey. Bowers body was found with Scott and Wilson just 11 miles from One Ton Depot. The correspondence relates to fellow expedition member Edward RGR Evans book South with Scott and general matters.
