Situated in Fossway, the church began as a mission chapel for Holy Trinity, Heworth. It was designed by E. V. Hunter. The parish was created in 1940 from a part of Holy Trinity.

The archive was deposited at the Borthwick Institute in 1992 by the incumbent.
