John Brian Dickinson Simpson was born in Swansea in 1926. He attended Swansea Grammar school in the 1930s before undertaking military service in India during the 1940s. By profession J.B.D Dickinson was a bank manager at Lloyds Bank, Wind Street, Swansea. He was nominated High Sheriff of West Glamorgan in 1990. He was also a leading figure in the Royal Institution of South Wales.
