Administrative / Biographical History

Stone and Rolfe Ltd were steamship owners and brokers, based in Burrows Chambers, Swansea. The firm was established as a partnership in Llanelli in 1910, but had previously been connected with shipping for upwards of fifty years, through one of its members. It was eventually incorporated as a Limited Company in 1920, with head office at Llanelli. Owing to expansion of trade, a branch office was opened at Swansea in 1915. The company owned at least seven steamers varying in size from 630-2,300 tons in capacity. The Llanelli office was closed in 1957, and the Swansea office continued trading until the late 1970s.
