The Outlaw and the Mansfield Maid is contained in a notebook, either autograph or fairly close to the original version, which was once in the collection of the Arthurian scholar, Zara Zaddy. The two-act play, probably dating from the late nineteenth century, is likely to be a May Day entertainment, as it ends with Robin's sweetheart Marian being crowned Queen of the May as well as of Sherwood Forest.
