Administrative / Biographical History

In the early 1920s James David Paterson and his wife moved from Arbroath to India where he became manager of the Gourepore Jute Mill and was very well respected by his staff. While in India the Patersons had three children, James, Ian and Elfriede.

Open for consultation subject to preservation requirements. Access must also conform to the restrictions of the Data Protection Act and any other appropriate legislation.

Acquisition Information

The depositor was Elfriede Paterson's neighbour; who came into possession of the items after Dr Paterson died; however, apparently Dr Paterson had been agreeable to an earlier suggestion that the items be deposited in the University of Dundee.

Custodial History

The items were accumulated by the Paterson family while in India and eventually were brought back to the United Kingdom and ended up in the possession of Dr Elfriede Paterson who was the daughter of James Paterson.
