Scope and Content

This collection contains records relating to the membership of the British Paediatric Association and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. It includes lists of members, biographies, photographs and details of corresponding and honorary fellows.

Administrative / Biographical History

Since 1928, a number of membership catagories have developed:

  • Since 1928, the catagory of Honorary membership is reserved for members who have given distinguishd service
  • Women were allowed to enter the association from 1944 onwards
  • Members of sister organisations overseas were admitted as corresponding members from 1934, up until 196` when the catagory was abolished
  • From 1977, overseas members could be admitted
  • From 1985, retired clinicians could apply for senior membership
