Administrative / Biographical History

Iechyd Morgannwg Health Authority was established in 1995 as one of five health authorities covering Wales, with a jurisdiction covering the new unitary authorities of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend. Within it was Swansea Local Health Group. In 2003, the five health authorities were replaced by 22 autonomous local health boards (LHBs) based on the existing local health groups. One of these was Swansea Local Health Board. This continued in operation until Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board was formed on 1st October 2009 as a result of a reorganisation within the NHS in Wales and consists of the former Local Health Boards (LHBs) for Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend and also the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust.
