Administrative / Biographical History

Arthur Maclennan Sutherland was born on 30 September 1909. He was educated at Kelvinside Academy, Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow University with MB, ChB in 1932. He was both a Member (1936) and Fellow (1954) of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Fellow of the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (1937). He worked at many hospitals in Glasgow, including the Victoria Infirmary, the Western Infirmary, the Royal Infirmary, the Royal Samaritan Hospital, the Royal Maternity Hospital, Glasgow Corporation Hospitals, Lanarkshire Hospitals and the Southern General Hospital. He taught and examined for Glasgow University, the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons. Invited to give many lectures and publications, he sat on several committees and the editorial board of the Glasgow Medical Journal. He died in 2000.
