Ethel Annie Mary Browne was born c1899 in Glasgow, Scotland and lived in the Shawlands area of Glasgow. She matriculated into the faculty of Arts at the University of Glasgow in 1927, studying Mathematics and French. In her second year she studied Higher Mathematics, English and Logic. Her third year classes were Natural Philosophy, Higher Mathematics and Higher English. She graduated MA in 1930.
