The impetus in forming the Glasgow University Graduates '93 Club lay primarily with 3rd and 4th year Arts students at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. During their final session, relations were cordial and "resulted in so much social intercourse that a strong feeling had arisen that an effort should be made to make it permanent". It was proposed by Thomas Cameron that a club be formed to continue this. A letter was sent out signed by James W Cleland, William Gow, R S McKim, Campbell Taylor and Alex Wylie Blue to men they knew inquiring about thoughts and interest in this club. On the 19 April 1893  the Glasgow University Graduates '93 Club was formed. Membership was open to men of all faculties who were students in the session 1892-1893  and subscription was 1 shilling and 6 pence. Around 1913  , the membership was extended to welcome any who were in the University in the year 1893  , including those who matriculated for 1893-1894  .

The first President was Alex Wylie Blue and the first Secretary and treasurer was Campbell Taylor. A committee was formed and the name was decided. Annual dinners were held, the first dinner was held in 1894  in the Windsor Hotel. Only members of the club were present at the first four dinners, but thereafter Professors or distinguished men were invited and a town and gown relationship developed. Many of the members of Glasgow University Graduates 93 Club had prominent careers in law, teaching, the church and politics. The first invited guest in 1898 was Professor Andrew Cecil Bradley, Professor of English Language and Literature (1889-1900), whose classes many of the original members had attended. Matters of interest were recorded in the 'Menu Card'. The club celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 1952.

The Club's activities seemed to wane in the 1970s, but was resurrected by the 1451 Association of Glasgow Graduates in 1993 in the Club's centenary year, and has now become established as an annual Christmas dinner in the University's Bute Hall (2007).
