Scope and Content

This collection contains Actors Touring Company papers relating to Arts Council England and National Lottery funding, education and outreach programmes, projects and theatrical productions. The archive also comprises production folders for Actors Touring Company productions, which contain material including correspondence, budgets, technical plans, prompt scripts, marketing material, programmes, reviews, audio-visual material and photographs.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Actors Touring Company was founded by John Retallack in Paris in 1978 with the aim of presenting international contemporary theatre to audiences in the UK and worldwide. ATC's inaugural production of Don Juan was awarded a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1978. The company frequently collaborates with international practitioners and commissions a mix of translations and new writing. In 2008, under the artistic directorship of Bijan Sheibani, the company won an Olivier Award for their production of Gone Too Far! , which was produced in association with the Royal Court Theatre, London. Countries the Actors Touring Company has toured to include Brazil, India and Iraq.
