Scope and Content

This is a large, fairly miscellaneous collection of deeds, which was completely disordered. The most frequently occurring family name is that of Taylor, followed closely by that of Town(e), and it may be surmised that the Towns were the former holders of the land later acquired by the Taylors, and that individual members of the Taylor family held different areas of land in and around Ludlow [Salop]. The lands in Richard's Castle appear to have been acquired by the Taylors after the death of the second John in 1774: those held in Brimfield and Staunton Lacy came into the family holdings at an earlier date. Therefore, the deeds have been listed in chronological order according to the land in question: the majority are concerned with lands in Richard's Castle, but there are also some relating to Swinton, Brimfield, Staunton Lacy and Ludlow itself.
