Labour History Archive and Study Centre (People's History Museum/University of Central Lancashire)

The Labour History Archive and Study Centre (LHASC) is the only specialist repository for the political wing of the labour movement. It holds records of working-class political organizations from the Chartists to New Labour. Our collections are used for a variety of research purposes, providing information about the social, cultural and political life of the last two centuries. The two main collections held at the LHASC are the archive of the Labour Party and the archive of the Communist Party of Great Britain. Besides housing papers of political organizations, the LHASC collects personal papers of radical politicians, writers and left-wing groups.

We have made over 20 collections available on the hub to date, these include personal papers of Labour politicians, and the records of Left wing groups and organisations such as Unity Theatre, Socialist Sunday Schools, and the British Workers Sports Association.

Our two main collections, The Labour Party archive and the Communist Party of Great Britain archive are not yet available on the Hub. we hope to remedy this at a future date. In the meantime the indexes to both of these archives can be searched online from the Access to Archives (A2A) web site.
