Scope and Content

Letter sent from London, marked "private". Cobden thanks Hunter for his letter and advice upon retiring from his public position. He writes that he is still unsure whether the repeal of the Corn Laws will get through the Lords and, even if it does, "total repeal" will be delayed for "two months" by "the royal hand". He stresses the private nature of his comments about leaving public life, which he dwells upon.
