Scope and Content

This manuscript book and separate name index represents an historical account of Protestant Dissent in Bicester and particularly the chapel in Sheep Street. This was used as a meeting place for a variety of denominations, including Presbyterians, Independents (Congregationalists), Baptists and Methodists.

The book was formerly in the possession of Sidney Hedges, and was deposited in December 1993 (accession 3740). An article about the volume by Fiona Hedges appears in the Oxfordshire Family Historian, Volume 7 Number 3 (1993) pp.171-4, and further background on Nonconformity in Bicester can be found in the Victoria County History of Oxfordshire Volume VI pp.48-50.

Catalogued by Mark Priddey, Sept.1994.
