Scope and Content

Includes a small amount of correspondence to Edward Burra (including photocopies of letters), probably collected by William Chappell during the compilation of 'Well Dearie!: The Letters of Edward Burra' (1986).

Arrangement

Arranged in three sequences: letters from Barbara Ker-Seymer, letters to Barbara Ker-Seymer, and letters from Edward Burra (not to Ker-Seymer). Arranged alphabetically by name of correspondent within these sequences.

The majority of Ker-Seymer's letters to Edward Burra were returned to her after his death by his sister, Anne Lady Ritchie of Dundee (1909-89). For ease of reference, a small number formerly in Burra's Papers (TGA 939) have been added to TGA 974. A collection of letters from Patricia Highsmith to Ker-Seymer and Barbara Roett was sold at Sotheby's English Literature and History sale in London on 17 Jul 1997 (lot 273). Beryl Cook's letters to Ker-Seymer were returned to her after the latter's death.
