The Gottheil correspondence comprises letters sent by Theodores to Gottheil, after the latter had moved to New York. The letters were sent at regular intervals, and Theodores supplies news of Manchester acquaintances, particularly about the local Jewish population. This includes details of goings-on at the Reform synagogue, Manchester, including the disputes between Theodores, and Gottheil's successor, Dr Isaac Weiner. Theodores also makes occasional comments about religious and intellectual issues in relation to Judaism, especially in publications he has been reading and reviewing. there are also comments on the contemporary state of Jewish life in Great Britain and Germany. In some of his letters, he makes reference to growing anti-Semitism in Europe.
