Administrative / Biographical History

The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest and west of England, the West Midlands, and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833 and ran its first trains in 1838. The GWR became the Western Region of British Railways on 1 January 1948.

The London and North Western Railway (LNWR, L&NWR) was a British railway company between 1846 and 1922.

The Llanelly Railway and Dock Company was an early Welsh railway system that was taken over by the LNWR & GWR.
