Scope and Content

A volume of transcripts, in Church Slavonic, from the 'Lives of the Saints', of the life of Christ, the life and suffering of Varvara, the martyr, the life of Varlaam, the first abbot of the Cave monastery of Kiev, and the life of Tito, the presbyter. The title-page, which is misleading, reads as follows: 'Mykola Koval' malorossiiskaya povi'st' nyneshnavo vremi'ni sochinenie Nikolaya Vengera Nikolaev 1832g.' [Mykola, the smith. A Ukrainian tale of the present time. The work of Nikolai Venger Nikolaev, 1832].

The volume once belonged to Telegraphs / Signals N.C.O. Dmitriy Nikolaevich Tikhonov, and was found at Sevastopol, 8 October 1855 by John ('Redan') Lewes, Llan-llyr (Llanlear), co. Cardigan, major, 3rd Foot.
