Scope and Content

Gweniolen Evans was the aunt of Elwyn Llewellyn Evans. She lived in Tonyrefail and was a teacher. Her diaries have brief entries including: remarks on the weather; visits to concerts and the cinema; chapel and church attendance, Ainon Welsh Baptist Chapel and St John’s, Tonyrefail; girl guide meetings; leisure activities, including, playing golf; community events and political meetings.

The diaries covering the Second World War are of particular interest and include remarks on the blackout, ARP meetings and air raid warnings.
