Administrative / Biographical History

This school was opened as a Senior Girls school in September 1930 with 287 pupils. It was situated alongside the boys school, but in 1955 the boys transferred to a new school on Hills Lane, later Leger Way [see SR136]. The opportunity was taken to expand the girls school using the old boys school premises. The new Wheatley Secondary School for girls was opened on 30 July 1956 and this later became known as Wheatley High School for Girls. From 1974 the school came under the administration of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. After a reorganization, the school ceased to be a girls school and opened as Wheatley Middle School in September 1978 taking pupils aged 9-13. The school closed in July 1997.
