The Alliance Colour and Chemical Co. Ltd. was founded by Henry Matley in 1920. Originally located in Stretford, near Manchester, it moved to Altrincham in the 1920s. The company manufactured mainly lake dyes and azo dyes, particularly for non-textile uses. ICI started to purchase shares in the firm in 1934, and fully acquired the company in 1939. The firm then went into voluntary liquidation, although ICI continued to use its Altrincham site for other purposes for several years.
