Letter from P.W. Clayden, Hon. Secretary of the Liberal Forwarders, to [Rev. Canon Edward] Hicks (1843-1919), bishop of Lincoln, requesting that the Manchester Liberal Associations hold a meeting to promote the views of [the anti-Boer war campaign], to counter the effectiveness of those supporting war, and that the rhetoric of the [pro war] press may lessen the willingness of [Paul] Kruger, president of the Transvaal, to compromise.
