Administrative / Biographical History

This collection consists of the mining plans and professional and personal papers of the Richard family, a notable family of mining engineers, surveyors and architects working in the South Wales Coalfield region especially in the Swansea area during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. T. Bryn Richards (b 1895) was a mining engineer but also worked in local government and had antiquarian, archaeological and architectural interests. He was greatly interested in the ancient buildings and industrial archaeology of the Swansea region. The archive includes material relating to the work and interests of both T. Bryn Richard and his father Thomas Richard (b 1853) as well as other members of the family.
