Administrative / Biographical History
The Cottingham Civic Society was formed in 1986 in response to the plans of the University of Hull to sell land near Thwaite Hall for redevelopment. The Society is still active today and aims to protect buildings and other features in Cottingham of historical or public interest, to educate the public in the geography and history of Cottingham and to ensure high standards of building planning.

Custodial History
The file formed part of the papers transferred to the archives in the 1990s and 2000s by David Pennie, former member of staff in the University Library. These papers included library files and also files relating to local politics and organisations. The non-Library files were separated and separately accessioned in 2013
