Administrative / Biographical History
With the establishment of permanent stations on Antarctica the United States navy began a series of annual voyages south to relieve the personnel. USS Glacier captained by Eugene Mather visited McMurdo Sound before moving on to Kainan Bay where the Little America V station was to be erected.
