Scope and Content

The records consist largely of documents relating to the closure of Lluesty Hospital and the public consultation which took place between 2001-2003. There are also some early records relating to the period when Lluesty Hospital was the Holywell Union Workhouse.

Administrative / Biographical History

Lluesty Hospital, Chester Road, Holywell, was built in 1838 as the Holywell Union Workhouse. It later became Lluesty Hospital and was managed by the Clwyd and Deeside Hospital Management Committee from 1948 under the NHS Act. Following re-organisation, it became part of Clwyd North District Health Authority in 1974. From 1999 onwards it became part of Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust.
