Scope and Content

Deeds and documents relating to the combined estates of Berain and Lleweni brought about by the marriage in c.1557 of Catherine of Berain, the only daughter and heir of Tudyr ap Robert Vychan ap Tudyr of Berain, p. Llanefydd, co. Denb., and John Salusbury (d. 1566), son and heir of Sir John Salusbury of Lleweni, p. Henllan, co. Denb. Tudyr ap Robert Vychan's ancestral estate lay in p's Llanefydd, Cefn, Bylchau, Abergele, Llansannan, Nantglyn and Gwytherin, co. Denb., all represented in these deeds. Catherine was also heir to the estate of Jane Velevall, her mother. The present collection contains deeds to the Velevall estate in p's Beaumaris, Llan-faes, Llanidan, Pentraeth, Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf, Llangeinwen and Penmynydd, all co. Ang., and in the town of Caernarfon. The ancestral estate of the Salusbury family of Lleweni is represented in the collection by documents relating to properties in p's Bodfari, Caerwys, Diserth, Flint, Meliden, Newmarket, Prestatyn, co. Flint, Aberchwiler, Burton, Bylchau, Cefn, Cerrigydrudion, Chirk, Denbigh, Henllan, Llangollen, Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch, Llansannan, Rhuddlan and Wrexham, co. Denb., Conwy, co. Caern, and Newcastle-under-lyme, co. Staffs.
