Single b/w photograph showing a gallery lesson in an unidentified London Board School in 1890, using Froebel's Gifts. The children are seated in a 'gallery', an arrangement similar to that of a lecture theatre, and are using wooden building bricks to construct bridges but in a very mechanical way, i.e. merely copying the teacher's example brick by brick - the antithesis of the Froebel approach.
