Administrative / Biographical History
James Rennell (1742-1830) was a surveyor and cartographer for the East India Company from the late 1750s. In 1765 he undertook a general survey of Bengal and in 1767 was appointed surveyor-general. In 1780 Rennell published A Bengal Atlas.
