Administrative / Biographical History

The papers relate to John Strachan's attempts to retrieve money from the voyages of the Jane and Beaufoy. Strachan was part owner of these vessels, which sailed to the southern oceans on voyages of commercial and exploration during the 1820s. James Weddell captained Jane while Mathew Brisbane captained the Beaufoy.
