Scope and Content

Autograph Letters collection consisting mainly of letters from Nonconformist leaders and ministers, including: Wesleyan Methodists (Eng MSS 841-843 and 844-845), United Methodists (Eng MSS 846-856 and 857-858), Congregationalists (Eng MSS 859 and 860), Baptists (Eng MS 861), Roman Catholics (Eng MS 862), Presbyterians Eng MS 862) and Unitarians (Eng MS 863). Also included are autograph letters from members of the Temperance movement (Eng MS 863), as well as miscellaneous letters from various political, economic, social and academic figures of the 18th and 19th centuries (Eng MSS 862 and 864).

Acquisition Information

The collection was purchased by the John Rylands Library from the Manchester booksellers Sherratt & Hughes. The date of the purchase is unknown, but the collection was accessioned in May 1935.
