Correspondence and papers relating to the RCOG's involvement with FIGO, including correspondence of the RCOG President and Honorary Officers, and papers relating to the FIGO World Congresses.

Administrative / Biographical History

FIGO – the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics – was established in 1954 to bring together professional societies of obstetricians and gynecologists on a global basis. It is incorporated under the Swiss Civil Code but has a Secretariat based in London. Since its foundation, every three years FIGO has organised a World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

The entire archive of the Executive Secretary of FIGO in the UK was transferred to the RCOG Archives in 1997/8. The records were appraised by the College Archivist and records of permanent research value catalogued under the prefix FIGO. They were subsequently returned to the FIGO Secretariat.
