Glasgow University Archaeological Society was formed in 1965 with the aim of satisfying the interest of students and staff in archaeology and historical geography. The committee organised lectures, outings, field trips and social events. Members of the society also participated in archaeological excavations. From around 1970 until at least 1982 an annual conference was held jointly with Edinburgh University Archaeological Society. The Society is still in existence (2007).
