Wheatley Hills Secondary Modern School participated in the schools section of the Festival of Britain in 1951 as one of two schools in the county chosen to exhibit a project 'to illustrate present day methods of teaching in the Secondary Modern type of school'. The project, on Doncaster in 1851, involved the construction of various types of models made by the school pupils from research undertaken by them. A 'combined illustrated record' in three ring-binders was compiled and, at the request of the Festival authorities a film-strip (in two parts) was made on the preparation of the project.
