Photographs of the family of David Francis and Hywel Francis.

Hywel Francis was born in Onllwyn in the Dulais Valley in 1946, the son of David Francis, an official for the National Union of Mineworkers and the South Wales Miners' Federation. He attended what is now the University of Wales, Swansea (BA History 1968, PhD 1978). He is currently MP for Aberavon, and is the co-author along with David Smith, of The Fed: a History of the South Wales Miners in the Twentieth Century(Lawrence and Wishart, London 1980).
