Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Marguerite (Rita) Linck Hutchison (née Sclanders), the daughter of Robert Sclanders, a provision merchant, was born in Glasgow in 1897. She was a student at the University of Glasgow from 1915-1919. During her time at university she studied Zoology, Botany, Physics and Chemistry (1915); Materia Medica (1917-1918); Surgery, Medicine and Clinical medicine (1918-1919). Rita graduated MB ChB in 1920.
She also achieved a DPH (Diploma in Public Health) from RCPS Edinburgh and RFPS Glasgow in 1922. Rita worked as a lecturer of Clinical Medicine at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and then went on to work as the Medical Officer at the Family Planning Association, Glasgow.
Rita married Lyaee Keith Hutchison, a chartered accountant, in Glasgow on 4 May 1923, and it is known that they had at least one daughter. She is still present on the General Council register in 1989, listed as living in Bristol, but is not in 1994, so it is presumed that she died sometime between these years.
