Scope and Content

The Passing Hour was the newsletter-like periodical sent out by Stirling District Asylum to a list of subscribers. Its contents vary from issue to issue but can contain editorials, news from around the asylum, results from the sporting fixtures the patients and staff have partaken in and the occasional black and white photograph of patients to name but a few. Though it is assumed that many contributors were members of staff, some contributors to the issues were identified as patients during PhD research undertaken in the archive in 2018. The number of issues per year alters over time and it is indicated at file level whether or not there is a full run available for that year.

To aid the searching of this series, information is recorded in the description field for each issue including keywords and names of individuals who feature in articles. The catalogue description for each issue provides access to a fully digitised version which can be viewed by clicking on the thumbnail image on the right hand side of the page.
