Scope and Content

Fringford is a village in the north-west of Oxfordshire, a few miles to the north of Bicester. In 1924 it was united with Hethe, and then in 1960 both parishes were in turn united with Newton Purcell and Shelswell. In 1982 Fringford and Hethe were united with Stratton Audley, Godington and Stoke Lyne. These parishes are now united with Cottisford, Finmere, Hardwick-cum-Tusmore, Mixbury, Newton

Purcell and Shelswell to form the Shelswell group of parishes.

The parish records of Fringford were originally deposited with the Bodleian Library as MSS.D.D.Par Fringford in three instalments, in 1960, 1978 and 1983. Two appendices list the contents of each deposit, and provide a concordance of old and new references. PAR109/1/R3/4, PAR109/1/R7/1-3 and PAR109/10/R/1were deposited at Oxfordshire Record Office as Accession 5024 in August 2002. Further records were deposited in August 2012 as Acc 6117 and in November 2017 as Acc 6634..

Recatalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith in September 1996. Additions added by Jenny Childs in October 2002 and by Alison Smith in December 2012 and December 2017.
