Deeds 1739-1794; legal papers 1742-1818.

Administrative / Biographical History

The estate consisted of a sizeable land holding in the parishes of Cadoxton-juxta-Neath and Llantwit-juxta-Neath, and from the 17th century was the property of the Llewellyn family, who were related to the Williams family of Dyffryn. One of the family, John Llewellyn, inherited the Penlle'rgaer Estate from his cousin, Griffith Price. The estate passed after his death to his daughter Mary who married Lewis Weston Dillwyn in 1817. Their descendants took the name Dillwyn-Llewellyn.
